Aircraft Carrying US Defense Secretary Forced to Touch Down in UK Due to Fracture in Windshield
A plane carrying the US defense secretary was forced to make an unscheduled landing in the UK on Wednesday following a fracture was identified in the jet's front window, per an official announcement which confirmed that the secretary was unharmed.
"The aircraft touched down based on established safety measures and all passengers, including Secretary Hegseth, is safe," a spokesperson commented in a social media post.
Hegseth was returning from a brief trip to Brussels at the time.
This occurrence isn't the initial instance that a US military aircraft ferrying a high-ranking official has suffered equipment failures.
Earlier this year, a US Air Force plane transporting the US Secretary of State to the German city of Munich was forced to head back to Washington after encountering a mechanical fault.
