American Social Media Personality Penalized Following Mass E-Bike Ride on Iconic Australian Bridge
New South Wales police have levied a penalty against an US-based online influencer and handed out two traffic infringement notices for alleged reckless operation after a swarm of e-bike riders converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the busy commute on Tuesday.
The Incident: An Illegal Gathering
A group of around 40 people riding electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the primary roadway of the bridge, where cycling is prohibited. The riders subsequently reversed direction and traveled through the city’s CBD and a nearby district.
"This had potential for serious injury or fatalities," stated NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on the following day.
Law enforcement indicated they did not chase right away the riders out of concerns for public safety but instead located the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the city gardens, at which point they broke up.
Fines Imposed for Content Creator
Later in the week, authorities stated they had served the US social media influencer who goes by the influencer, 26, with two violation tickets for negligent driving (with no death or previous bodily harm), with a penalty of $562 and three demerit points each, connected to the bridge ride-out. They added that the investigation is ongoing.
The personality is said to have more than 3.4 million followers on one platform and over 1.2 million on Instagram.
Creator's Response
The content creator spoke with a major newspaper this week after the incident gained traction on news sites and social media, saying he regretted giving "bike life" a bad reputation.
"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was among the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he told the publication. "I am a visitor here, and I intend to come here respecting the rules and standards of Sydney. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi near the bridge."
"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we ended up on the bridge and I had a decision to make: either the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, which is a crime. Or we reverse, essentially, before entering the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."
National Debate on E-Bike Regulation
The spate of electric bicycles on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for stricter rules. The federal health minister, Mark Butler, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."
"Young people have engaged in stupid things on bikes since the invention of the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are presenting at our ERs are absolutely devastating," he said. "We’ve got to make sure we stop these things coming into the country [and] police are given the authority to crack down, to confiscate them, to crush them, to dispose of them."
The state recorded 226 injuries associated with electric bikes in 2024. However, in the first seven months of 2025, that number surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
