Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Major Control Tower IT Issue
Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a major ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.
All aircraft movements were stopped because of an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.
Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.
Flights Resume with Continued Disruption
A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
That said, ongoing issues are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.
A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be disrupted.
"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," the statement added.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Passengers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are managed.
